Juan Julio dies Fernández, the architect who led the fight against cancer in Tenerife. The regional president of the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC) died this Sunday at the age of 88, according to the organization itself.
Fernandez He was born in 1935 in La Palma although he arrived in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1961., after obtaining his Architect degree and since then, he has not ceased in his efforts to become a great professional and work to try to improve the city in all its aspects. This interest led him to practice teaching, as a means to generate an awareness of responsibility in people who want to continue learning and to contribute to maintaining inherited heritage and creating another that successors can protect.
Between 1971 and 1974 it was president of the Delegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and vice dean of the Official College of Architects ofand Canary Islands. At that time, the current headquarters of the College on Rambla de Santa Cruz was inaugurated and the First International Sculpture Exhibition took place on the street, which celebrated its fortieth anniversary last year.
He was also a Deputy of the Democratic Center Union (UCD) in Congress during the I Constitutional Legislature – from 1979 to 1982 – for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

His social concerns made him accept, in May 2005, the presidency of the Provincial Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Santa Cruz de Tenerifeof which, since November of the same year, he has also been the regional president, an activity that he combined with his professional practice and his collaboration in different newspapers.
