CV Hidramar Gran Canaria loses in the derby against CV Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna

The Canary Islands derby between CV Hidramar Gran Canaria and CV Tenerife Libby’s La Laguna began with intensity this Sunday at the Pablos Abril Pavilion in La Laguna (4-6). After a tie at 8, the Gran Canaria players took the lead on the scoreboard (8-12) and maintained their advantage during the following minutes of the match (10-14).

However, the Laguneras recovered by tying the match (18-18) and taking the lead (22-19). The Olympic team tried to recover those three points that weighed so much in the final stretch of the round, but the Tenerife team left the first set at home by a tight 23-25 (1-0).

Go for the tie

Hidramar seemed to have the second set against from the beginning (4-1) but managed to equalize and take the lead (7-9), with the intention of turning the match around and taking home another victory. After the score was 11 even, the match began to advance evenly, until the visitors from Gran Canaria managed to pull away (17-21) enough to reach the end of the set with guarantees. In the end, they took it 25-20 and tied the game (1-1).

The tug of war continues

Olympic took the lead at the start of the third set (2-5) but the match was quickly tied again (6-6), returning to the ‘tug of war’ dynamic that characterized the entire clash. The Laguneras gained a good lead (19-16) but the performances of Saray Manzano and Sulián Matienzo brought the match back to a tie. However, the locals took the third set 25-22 (2-1).

The derby stays in La Laguna

The Tenerife team quickly gained an advantage at the start of the fourth round (6-2). The locals doubled their rivals in points (8-4) when Marcos Dreyer’s players got back into the game, recovering the differences with a tie at 9 and trying to force the tie-break. After going 15-all, the Laguneras conceded four goals without giving the Gran Canarians any opportunities (19-15) and, in the end, they took the set (25-20) and the match (3-1).
