SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has assured that the 2024 Regional Budgets will be social, will have a tax reduction and will fight against the unequal distribution of income.
This was said this Saturday after the meeting of the Advisory Council that took place at the Presidency headquarters of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to address the general lines of the Autonomous Community’s budget for 2024.
“These budgets are social budgets. They are going to include the social items basically in Health, Education and Social Services based on the actual executed budget,” he stated.
Here, he explained that the Government will exercise discipline and budgetary rigor to accommodate what public services and departments execute and spend.
On the other hand, he pointed out that they are budgets that undertake a tax reduction. “This tax reduction – he indicated – is in personal income tax, the Inheritance and Donation Tax and also in the IGIC.”
Clavijo made special emphasis on the fact that the economic scenario and the need to guarantee basic and essential public services have made the Government of the Canary Islands be prudent and pay attention to how the unknowns are going to be cleared up throughout the first quarter.
“We must not forget that there is no Government of Spain, that there is no budget project for the State and that we do not even have the basic and essential data to make the budget,” he observed, adding that “what we are not going to do is acquire commitments that we will not be able to fulfill.”
Thirdly, the Canary Islands president explained that the 2024 budgets will have an impact on the unequal distribution of income that exists right now in the Canary Islands.
“With social aid,” he asserted, “we are not able to lift people out of marginality and social exclusion. We achieve it with work, with productivity, with higher salaries, with more stable jobs.”
However, he was aware that this will not be corrected “neither in one year, nor in a budget, nor, of course, will it be corrected in four, but we do know that it is a challenge that we have to set as a goal.” society and today with these budgets we want in a modest way to be able to start putting those small stones to build a better Canary Islands for all of us”.
