The Cabildo of Tenerife and the Hotel and Non-Hotel Association of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro (Ashotel) signed a protocol “to improve mobility on the Island.” The document includes nine lines of work. From adapting the TEN+VAO application to optimizing bus routes or promoting shared vehicles between those who work in the same space.
A pilot experience in Costa Adeje will allow 2,000 workers (Ashotel brings together 18,000 throughout the Island) to travel by public transport to and from the place where they carry out their work, in an area with a significant concentration of hotels. The signing ceremony was carried out by the island president, Rosa Davila; the vice president, Lope Afonso; the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, and the manager of the hotel association, Juan Pablo Gonzalez.
The Cabildo will collaborate in the development of the measures, in addition to offering legal, administrative and technical support for Mobility Plans and sustainability actions. For its part, Ashotel acquires the commitment to develop these sector plans in the sphere of its competencies; the adoption of dissuasive measures to encourage the use of alternatives to transportation by private vehicle and promote those that promote sustainable mobility within the tourism business sector.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, thanked Ashotel for its involvement in improving mobility on the Island. «From the first moment we said that we had to make decisions and not alone, but Add to the agents involved, so it was essential to sign this agreement with Ashotel. Lope Afonso valued it as an important step for sustainable mobility, “with the involvement of the sector that proposes measures with workers and companies to help alleviate traffic congestion.”
Juan Pablo González, finally, highlighted that the sector has been promoting measures to improve mobility for some time.
