Pablo Rodríguez, Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, announces that the layout of the fourth lane of the southern section of the Insular Highway Ring is defined and is in the supervision phase. The next step will be to collect the environmental impact report, prior to drafting the construction project.
Its about second lane that currently lacks the 14.5 kilometers that separate the Las Machas roundabout (town of Santiago del Teide) from the Barranco de Erques (border between Guía de Isora and Adeje), in the direction of Playa de las Américas. The company awarded – since September last year – for the drafting and construction is Omicron OHS Evalua, for 700,065 euros.
The action is included in Annex I of the Agreement signed by the Ministry of Development and the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands regarding Roads 2018-2027, a document signed on December 22, 2018 and published in the BOC on December 15. January 2019.
The Southern section of the Island Ring consists of 21 kilometers, but it only has four lanes in the first 6.5 kilometers of the route, until 87, the point where the Vera de Erques-Playa San Juan link is located, commonly known as the Fonsalía link, on the ground of Guía de Isora. The remaining 14.5 kilometers, which were opened to traffic on April 25, 2015, have two lanes in the direction of Santiago del Teide. However, towards Adeje there is only one lane, although its execution was carried out with the intention of providing this expressway with a fourth. A continuous line separates this lane from the other two along the route, an aspect that draws the attention of users and authorities.
The work is necessary given the announcement of the commissioning of the Santiago del Teide-El Tanque section in the current mandate
The announcement was made by Pablo Rodríguez in an appearance he made yesterday at the Public Works, Transportation and Housing Commission following a question posed by the nationalist deputy. Jonathan Martin Fumero. The man from Santiago explained that this design of the road requires its splitting “to avoid multiple traffic accidents” resulting not only from recklessness, but also from the insecurity of this road.
Martín Fumero also recalled that from the beginning The land necessary for this expansion is available. and that both the existing bridges on the route and the El Bicho tunnel are designed and executed to assume the second lane in the “downhill” direction. An average that the regional deputy values.
The construction of the fourth lane of the Southern section of the Insular Highway Ring has a greater reason for being with the announced commissioning of the route between Santiago del Teide and El Tanque, which includes the Erjos tunnel. This work, which is already more than 50% complete, will come into operation during the current mandate, which will significantly increase traffic on this road that connects the north and south of the Island.
