After many years demanding a roundabout to put an end to one of the black spots of traffic in the south of Tenerife, the residents of Guargacho will finally see their demand fulfilled today. The new roundabout on the TF-652 island highway located in this southern nucleus, shared between the municipalities of Arona and San Miguel de Abonawill enter service today.
This is a road they travel on daily. between 12,000 and 15,000 vehicles (half a thousand of them considered heavy), according to the latest data from the traffic intensity measuring station, corresponding to 2022, installed by the Council in this point.
The opening to traffic of the new roundabout today, after an investment of half a million euros, will mean a notable leap in quality in terms of safety and mobility conditions for motorists, since this island road connects Las Chafiras with the Coast. del Silencio and Las Galletas, crossing the towns of Las Rosas, Oroteanda Baja and Guargacho itself. It must be remembered that at this point on the TF-652 there have been numerous traffic accidents, some of them fatal, right on the border of two municipalities, which have high accident rates in the Canary Islands, according to statistics from the General Directorate. Traffic: San Miguel de Abona, with 18.64 accidents per thousand inhabitants, and Arona, with 15 accidents per thousand residents.
The Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, explained with the opening to traffic of the new roundabout, access to the industrial zone will be facilitated and the demands raised by the companies will be responded to.
Although the first vehicles will begin to circulate today through the roundabout and its surroundings, the work will culminate in the month of January, pending the installation of new public lighting, the installation of new barriers and the improvement of sidewalks to facilitate pedestrian traffic. the island institution reported.
On the other hand, the Cabildo pointed out that works continue to improve the condition of the TF-652 roads (beyond the roundabout) and TF-653.
In the first case, the pavement will be replaced and the shoulder will be widened at kilometer point 5,350, in La Estrella, while in the case of the TF-653 road, which connects Guargacho with Palm-Mar, in addition to improving the pavement , the shoulders will also be widened and metal safety barriers will be installed to prevent the risk of accidents involving road departures.
