SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife will promote biomedical research and the transfer of knowledge from the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (ITB) through the Bioavance Foundation.
The ITB is a specialized entity of the University of La Laguna that is aimed at the discovery of new therapies that help combat degenerative diseases and is assisted by the Bioavance Foundation, an entity dependent on the island corporation.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila; the Minister of Innovation, Research and Development, Juan José Martínez; the rector of the ULL, Francisco García; and the director of the ITB, Diego Álvarez de la Rosa, visited the facilities located in La Laguna this Monday.
Rosa Dávila indicates in a note that the Cabildo created the Bioavance Foundation with the mission of assisting the University of La Laguna in the development of the Institute of Biomedical Technologies.
“Currently, the ITB is developing outstanding lines and programs that are related to rare and genetically based diseases, drug development and identification of therapeutic targets, biology and pathology of the nervous system and chronic diseases related to aging,” comments.
Along these lines, they point out that they want to “incentivize and enhance the interaction of research agents with economic agents to promote the industrial development of activities of high social value and high added value in the field of Biomedicine.”
It is, he points out, “a sector that can generate qualified employment on the island, something that we must promote in this mandate.”
The Institute of Biomedical Technologies (ITB) aims to promote excellent biomedical research, with translational orientation in relation to the biohealth needs of the environment, establishment of synergies with the productive sector and development of renewable strategic plans.
For its part, the Bioavance Foundation has among its objectives and purposes the development, promotion and dissemination of biomedical research and knowledge about degenerative diseases in general and neurodegenerative diseases in particular.
Its purpose is to support the management of ITB projects, promote innovation and transfer, collaborate in the search for financing and boost the development of the center.
