SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tomás González has been elected the new general secretary of the Socialist Youth of La Palma at the celebration of the VII Insular Congress, which took place on the morning of this Saturday, October 14, at the Braulio Mattín House of Culture in El Paso.
González has obtained the majority support of the Youth militancy that participated in Congress to begin a new stage of this island organization that, as its new leader highlighted, is stronger than ever and has the largest number of militancy on the island.
Proof of this is the great participation registered in the Congress, which was attended, as guests, by Ada Santana, general secretary of the Socialist Youth of the Canary Islands, as well as the general secretary of the PSOE of La Palma, Anselmo Pestana and members of the palmera socialist leadership.
Tomás González had moving words of gratitude for the support received in Congress and the affection expressed from the socialist militancy of La Palma and the Canary Islands: “I want to thank the Socialist Youth of La Palma, not only for the election as general secretary, but for the commitment acquired from work: From work for the youth of the island without distinctions”.
“And that is why,” he continued, “we take this step, and we take it together, from the first to the last militant; this is what we owe to the youth of our island, we owe them work, effort and values because they deserve a island to live on; you deserve an island that addresses the issue of rents for our emancipation, that is capable of facing the disadvantages of double insularity and turning them into advantages.
“We deserve an island in which we are committed to young talent, in which we are committed to scientific and technological development. An island in which to study, work and develop; an island in which we take care of our roots, our diversity; a “an island where machismo, homophobia or hate speech have no place; an island where you can love whoever you want, an island where you can be who you are.”
“In short, the youth of the island of La Palma deserve a socialist island. And that is why those of us who are here today, and those who have not been able to be here, are not the future, we are the present, the present of the island and of progress,” he concluded. .
Tomás González is a native of Santa Cruz de La Palma and has training in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as in Political Science and Public Administration from the same university center. Currently 22 years old, since he was 17 he has maintained an active militancy in the JSLP organization; as well as the Socialist Party, being a member of the local PSOE group of Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Within the framework of the Congress, the Juan Negrín Awards were presented, organized by Juventudes Socialistas Canarias in recognition of the work to preserve the historical memory of different people and entities.
In this V edition, the prize in the individual category went to the lawyer and researcher María Victoria Hernández Pérez and in the collective category it went to the Association for the Recovery of the Historical Memory of Tenerife.
