The fire that affects the island of Tenerife will continue at level 2 of severity and under the direction of the Government of the Canary Islands due to the persistence of high temperatures and dry air and because the situation of the fire requires continuous containment of the subsoil fire. since the strolling can evolve into new reproductions in the interface area.
This was agreed at the coordination meeting of the Special Protection Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response to Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA), which took place today, Friday.
The extinction work will be carried out today in the Santa Úrsula sector, where continuous reproductions have been recorded, in the Ravelo sector in which hot spots have remained and it is intended to consolidate the defense lines, and in the area included between Las Hayas, in Tacoronte, and Las Calderetas, in El Sauzal, where reproductions are also recorded.
During today’s day, 104 firefighting personnel will intervene among forestry brigades of the Cabildo (BRIFOR), Intervention and Reinforcement Teams (EIRIF) of the Government of the Canary Islands, Firefighters of the Tenerife Consortium, BRIF of the Ministry and the UME together with Corps and Forces personnel of Security, coordination personnel of CECOPIN, CECOES and the General Directorate of Emergencies, as well as the Red Cross. Their work will be supported from the air by six helicopters that will discharge water where necessary.
The maximum alert situation declared by the General Directorate of Emergencies due to the risk of forest fire in the Western Islands and Gran Canaria remains in force, as well as the pre-alert situations due to haze and high temperatures throughout the Archipelago.
