The Adeje City Council announced that it will eliminate the presence of animals from its pilgrimage starting this year. Furthermore, and due to the high temperatures that are being recorded and that are expected for tomorrow, the Consistory will transform the traditional pilgrimage with carts and animals, into a pilgrimage that will begin at one in the afternoon in the Plaza de la Cruz del Llano and will conclude in the Church of Santa Úrsula, with the offering to the Virgin of the Incarnation.
“This heat wave It has led us to make this decision that we had been considering for some time. There is no doubt that we cannot expose animals to an event of these characteristics with the high temperatures we have this week. But this measure, which could be temporary for this edition, we have decided to make it permanent to safeguard animal welfare,” says the mayor of the municipality, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.
As is tradition, the day will begin with the pilgrimage mass at 11:00 a.m., in the church of Santa Úrsula. Starting at 1:00 p.m., attendees will begin the pilgrimage walk, accompanied by their banner and musical and dance groups. They will also carry local products to offer to the patron saint and co-patrons of the municipality. At the end, will give way to coexistence in the square and, around 5:00 p.m., to the traditional end of the festivities with dancing in the Spain Square with the Sensación Gomera and Maquinaria Band orchestras.
The organization informs that this forecast is always subject to meteorological evolution and may change depending on it, although in principle a drop in temperatures is expected from tomorrow.
The patron saint festivities of Adeje today commemorate the 25th anniversary of the twinning with La Gomera and the 35th anniversary of the Folklore Festival, starting at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., respectively. For this weekend and holiday, the Adeje City Council has taken all the necessary measures to avoid holding events during the hottest hours.
