The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, and the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, will meet this Tuesday to analyze the “improvement of mobility” in the municipality, especially with the measures that are going to be implemented to relieve the traffic congestion that the Northern Highway (TF-5) suffers daily and the closure of access to Guamasa from the highway.
This Thursday, the mayor requested the meeting as a matter of urgency after learning that the insular Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga (Canarian Coalition), had already met with the councilors that his party has in La Laguna, and who are in the opposition, to explain this matter to them. That is, the members of the CC opposition were informed first than the municipal government team.
The mayor demanded from the president of the Cabildo, also from CC, via press release that all measures that affect the municipality “be agreed upon with the City Council, because there are many residents who could be affected.” In addition, she asked “to have first-hand all the information regarding the initiatives that the Cabildo wants to launch.”
The Cabildo indicated this Friday that the meeting with the mayor, who will finally know the information after the opposition, “was already planned.”
At the meeting, the Cabildo will report on the main initiatives undertaken by the island corporation such as the closure of accesses to the TF-5 from Guamasa to convert those acceleration lanes into third lanes; the new signage in Los Rodeos or the commissioning of the direct lane in Guajara-Universidad.
Likewise, the reinforcement of public transport by the Cabildo will be addressed with the installation of two shuttle buses with the University of La Laguna that will allow decongesting the most used lines at peak times and the reinforcement with a new tram on Line 1.
Information will also be provided on aspects related to mobility such as the two meetings held with practically all of the social and economic agents of the island, as well as the presentation of the Advance of the Tenerife Sustainable Mobility Island Plan.
In addition to mobility issues, the meeting scheduled for next Tuesday will discuss issues of interest to the municipality related to the Historical Heritage and economic development of La Laguna.
