The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Tenerife approved the Insular Historical Heritage Program for the period 2023-2027. The aid is open to privately or ecclesiastically owned properties, although the first allocation will go to preserving valuable buildings in the different municipalities. The initial subsidy that will go to the municipalities amounts to six million euros and corresponds to the years 2023 and 2024.
The island contribution for actions relating to property owned by the island’s municipalities will be a maximum of 1,200,000 euros for each one, distributed over up to three years with a maximum per intervention of 400,000 euros.
The planning document will be valid until 2027 and includes subsidies to non-profit individuals and legal entities for the maintenance, restoration and/or conservation of properties of cultural value. City councils are also subsidized for the restoration of assets of cultural value, the preparation and approval of special plans for the protection of historical sites, as well as municipal catalogs of cultural heritage assets.
The program also contemplates possible subsidies to the Bishopric of Tenerife for the restoration of real estate and furniture of the church with cultural value. In addition, actions are planned in infrastructures with the same value that are property of the Cabildo.
In the press conference after the Government Council, the president, Rosa Davila, and the vice president, Lope Afonso, valued the program as part of the “commitment to the municipalities.” Dávila indicated that with the approval “it will be possible to achieve not only the restoration of heritage assets but also have a positive impact on other sectors.” He gave tourism as an example when it came to putting into use certain assets “attractive to visitors to Tenerife.”
The island president also referred to the impact of the plan on the employment by “promoting the hiring of a significant number of people in fields such as construction.” He highlighted the impact on the economy as an enhancer of the development of different areas of the Island. It ended with the positive consequences in reference to sustainability by “conserving heritage elements that define and give environmental value to urban and rural landscapes.”
II Childhood Plan
The Governing Council also gave the green light to the II Island Plan for Childhood and Adolescence 2023-2027, which brings together the set of actions that the corporation and its entire public sector carry out in this area during the period.
This document reflects the commitment of the Cabildo of Tenerife to the promotion, defense and guarantee of the rights of children and adolescents, as well as to covering their needs to achieve comprehensive development. Rosa Dávila alluded to the risks at these ages such as suicide and linked work with mental health care. This Plan is also the previous step to renew the UNICEF Child Friendly City seal.
In Social Action, the Council approved to extend the contract for the specialized care and intervention service for victims of gender violence, housed in accommodation resources, for 194,117 euros on a multi-year basis.
