The Valle Gran Rey City Council has urgently declared today, Wednesday, the situation of Water Emergency in the town, due to the water shortage in the municipality, which entails measures such as occasional water cuts or the prohibition of filling swimming pools.
“We are faced with a situation in which the water we have for human consumption is not enough to satisfy the proper conditions of this service, especially in the Arure tanks and the Las Viñas tank, in La Vizcaina,” he declared. the mayor, Borja Barroso.
He added that all of this “is due to the situation of droughts and episodes of high temperatures that we have been experiencing in recent months and, in addition, due to the lack of solidarity of some people who have carried out sabotage actions to the drinking water network of the municipality”.
In this way, Barroso explained that the declaration of the Water Emergency situation entails the adoption of the necessary measures to guarantee the supply of drinking water in the municipality, among which are specific water cuts or the express and specific prohibition of use of water for human consumption for agricultural purposes, filling swimming pools or cleaning cars, as well as washing privately owned lots, rooftops and patios, among others.
The City Council has ordered municipal services to adopt an urgent control system to detect all irregular connections to the drinking water supply network that exist in the municipality, carrying out the relevant sanctions in each of these cases. , indicated the mayor.
Likewise, the City Council urges the Island Council of La Gomera and the Island Water Council to adopt extraordinary and urgent measures to guarantee the home supply of drinking water.
The City Council conveys to the population the need to maximize the responsible use of water in the municipality: “We need to work together to guarantee the supply of drinking water in Valle Gran Rey at a time of special drought for our island and the entire territory. “Water does not belong to anyone, it belongs to everyone and we must all protect it.”
