When a cayuco or a boatIn any case, a boat of those used in migratory waves arrives at port, it does not cause any problem. In those cases, the Government Subdelegation He considers that it is his responsibility and intervenes, taking her away from the place and acting following the established protocols.

These are the majority cases in which the located and rescued vessel is towed to the port of Los Cristianosfor example, the main reception point for migrants in the southern area of Tenerife.

However, the phenomenon is complicated when it reaches the coast by its own means, a scenario in which the vessel has another consideration and becomes the responsibility of the municipalities themselves.

This is the situation in which two canoes find themselves that, months ago, reached the coast of Arona in the area of Las Galletas and that have been abandoned there, without the authorities being able to act to destroy and remove them.

These boats are considered possible evidence of human trafficking and, therefore, can only be removed with an order issued by Justice. The same phenomenon occurred in 2021 for several months.

On that occasion, between January and June, the City Council proceeded to remove the smallest one, while the second, larger one, had to be destroyed on the beach to proceed to its transfer to a clean point.

Next to the two abandoned canoes on Las Galletas beach there is a catamaran whose origin the corporation claimed yesterday to not know. According to municipal sources, the City Council has already requested the corresponding courts to allow the removal of both boats with the aim of cleaning the beach of waste of these characteristics. However, it is a situation that usually lasts over time.
Especially, furthermore, in the current situation, of continuous arrival of cayucos.
