About 200 migrants who arrived in Tenerife on Friday afternoon In two cayucos they have slept on the Los Cristianos dock due to the lack of space in the first reception and affiliation centers, after an unprecedented peak in arrivals since 2020 (about 1,000 people in one day) which forced hundreds to divert to that island from El Hierro.

Sources from the emergency services have informed EFE that These are the occupants of two canoes that were located near the coast of Tenerife. with 113 and 93 people of sub-Saharan origin.

The transfer of nearly 500 migrants from El Hierro to Tenerife in the last few hours could have been the cause of the lack of space in the centers of Las Raíces or Las Canteras, sources have reported.

Lack of places in the CaTE

Sources from the Ministry of Inclusion have told EFE that the centers of the Tenerife reception network still have space, so the problem that occurred last Friday was due to the lack of places in the Temporary Care Centers for Foreigners ( CaTE), in which New arrivals stay for a maximum of 72 hours for the first police affiliation procedures.

The EFE Agency was able to verify this morning how these people slept on the floor covered with blankets provided by the services who pay attention to migrants when they arrive at the Canarian ports.

During this Friday, October 6, 13 boats arrived in the Canary Islands with more than a thousand people on board and seven of them went to El Hierro.whose reception infrastructures have been overwhelmed for a few days.

To face this situation on an island with very few first reception places and health resources, The Government Delegation is transferring from El Hierro to Tenerife to those who arrive by cayuco in a very short time, sometimes even on the same day.
