The five new puppies of the Canine Unit of the Santa Cruz Local Police of Tenerife celebrated their first month of life last September 25. The notable thing about this litter is that They are the result of the breeding of two of the outstanding members of the unitTeno and Naya, both Belgian Malinois cwith an outstanding track record in the detection of narcotic substances.
The litter, made up of four males and one female, will soon begin their socialization process and explore their skills for police work. Unlike the usual acquisition of dogs from the unit, this time the breeding and training of the litter will not represent an additional cost for the city council of Santa Cruz from Tenerife. This project will allow an early and effective adaptation to the training and training methods already applied by the canine handlers of the Local Police.
The goal is for these puppies to become the natural generational replacement for the older dogs in the unit. It must be remembered that, without counting the new puppies, the Local Police Canine Unit has six police canine guides and a total of ten dogs: seven Belgian Malinois, two German Shepherds and a Rottweiler, which respond to the names of “Teno”, “Luka”, “Jax”, “Odin”, “Hara”, “Naya”, “Luna”, “Triana”, “Hara” and “Thor”.
Next choice of litter names
Participatory processes will be carried out to choose their names, involving citizens and the municipality’s educational centers in this exciting canine adventure.
For this reason and with the desire to involve citizens in the progress of these puppies, it has been determined that, soon, two participatory processes will be carried out to name the new members of the unit. One of them will be carried out through the Local Police profile on X (Twitter), @PoliciaLocalSC and another will be coordinated with different educational centers in the municipality so that it is the students who determine the names of the puppies.
We share this video recorded a few days ago at the headquarters of the #Canine unit We will continue to inform you. We also want you, in the near future, to help us name several of the members of the litter. We will notify you when we open the process. #K9 pic.twitter.com/FQVjI1SGch
