The General Directorate of Public Health has extended high temperature warnings in some points of Canary Islands Until next weekend.
With the weather forecasts updated this Monday, Public Health has reviewed and extended the health risk warnings in municipalities of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
In Gran Canaria The red notice will remain in place in Agüimes from October 2 to 5; in Mogán, from October 2 to 8, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, until October 6, and in La Aldea San Nicolás and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, until October 8.
Valsequillo and Ingenio will remain under yellow warning until October 4.
ANDn Fuerteventura Pájara and Tuineje will remain on red notice until October 7, and Antigua will remain on yellow until this Monday.
In Lanzarote, San Bartolomé will be on yellow notice until October 4, and in Tenerife, Adeje on red notice from October 4 to 8, and in yellow, Candelaria from October 4 to 7; and San Miguel de Abona, La Orotava and Puerto la Cruz, from October 4 to 6.
The temperature thresholds established in 2023 are 33 degrees Celsius for the province of Las Palmas and 34 degrees for Santa Cruz of Tenerife.
The criteria for assigning health risk levels for situations of excess temperature, determined by the Ministry of Health, is based on a decision algorithm, Health explains in a statement.
Risk levels
Depending on this algorithm, based on the expected maximum temperatures, the established threshold, the number of days of persistence, which is specified as a minimum of three, and the risk factors of each territory, four risk levels are determined:
He level 0 (green), of absence of risk.
He level 1 (yellow)low risk.
Level 2 (orange), medium risk.
He level 3 (red)high-risk.
In the event of episodes of high temperatures, Public Health recommends paying special attention to those over 65 years of age, infants and pregnant women.
It is advisable to stay as long as possible in cool, shaded or heated places, and refresh yourself whenever necessary; reduce physical activity and avoid practicing sports outdoors in the middle hours of the day.
It is also recommended to drink water or liquids frequently, avoid drinks with caffeine and alcohol or very sugary ones; wear light, loose-fitting, breathable clothing; do not leave anyone in a parked and closed vehicle; Eat light meals and keep medicines in a cool place.
