The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, warned yesterday that the opening of the Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) in his municipality is an “urgent need.” After recognizing the “unforeseen circumstances” that have surrounded the work, among which he cited the pandemic and “some dysfunctions with companies regarding prices,” the southern councilor demanded greater agility in the final stretch of the work, which has already accumulated a delay of three years and four months.
“Old water does not move mills, what I ask is that it be finished and inaugurated at once, because it is truly a historic demand to meet the labor and professional needs and the quality of services,” Rodríguez Fraga, who told this newspaper, told this newspaper. , he acknowledged, he still does not know the deadlines managed by the new team of the Ministry of Education.
In addition, he recalled that there are “very powerful” projects and investments underway in fields such as audiovisuals, which is why he will ask that the teachings be adapted to the new job offers in this sector. “We have to get closer, at least, to this new reality, because the problem with formal education is that it is very rigid and does not adapt to the labor market, which is moving at breakneck speed.”
As reported NOTICE DIARY Last Tuesday, the Integrated Vocational Training Center of Adeje, the only one of its kind in the south of Tenerife, remains unfinished more than five years after its construction was awarded, when its planned deadline was 22 months. The work was awarded on May 23, 2018 for an amount of 4,688,885 euros (85% financed by the European Regional Development Fund) to the company Proyecon Galicia, which began work on July 26 of that year in a plot of 9,052 square meters on Lisbon Street in the Playas de Fañabé urbanization, donated by the City Council in 2014. The first stone was laid on September 26, 2018 in an event that was attended by the Canary Islands president, Fernando Clavijo, and of the Adejero mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.
The modification of the project requested by the construction company, with the consequent upward revision of the budget, together with the pandemic, have been two of the factors that have caused the delay in the completion of the building, as happened with the Parque La Reina institute , whose construction also fell into the hands of the Galician company, which suffered a delay of more than three years until it finally opened its doors this school year, thus ending 21 years of classes in the Guaza barracks.
The perimeter of the construction of the new Adeje CIFP remains fenced. The building shows a semi-finished appearance in the absence of the final finishes and the conditioning of the exterior spaces. The infrastructure is developed on four levels, with direct access from each of them to the exterior urbanization, except for the fourth which is located on the second floor. The facilities, with capacity for more than 500 students, will respond to the labor demands of the business community in the South and, above all, the tourism sector.
