A new lane that will cost 1.4 million euros will link the TF-642 highway in Granadilla de Abona, which runs parallel to the TF-1 Southern Highway, with the TF-64 in San Isidro in the direction of El Médano. The new lane is designed to unclog the San Isidro roundabout, which suffers major delays at peak times when vehicles going to this dormitory city of Granadilla from the highway join those heading to another dormitory city, El Médano. The Cabildo of Tenerife has put on public display the road project for the creation of this lane between the TF-642 and the TF-64, which will allow vehicles to go directly to El Médano without going through the roundabout.
The project will remain on public display for 20 business days. These types of plans that include direct lanes in areas where a large number of vehicles converge involve strategic actions to improve mobility. In this sense, this project is joined by the recent public exhibition of the document that contemplates the creation of direct lanes in the Güímar industrial estate with the execution of a new exit branch of the Southern Highway – heading towards Santa Cruz – from the Puertito de Güímar junction that will connect with the Camino del Socorro, on the edge of Monta Grande.
The Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, explains that this lane “will significantly alleviate traffic in an area where a high density of vehicles converge.” García recalled that the aforementioned roundabout distributes traffic towards the tourist center of El Médano and towards San Isidro, which is why he considers that “an intervention is necessary that involves improving the mobility conditions in the area.”
