The Tenerife tram exceeds 20 million passengers annually

The Tenerife tram has started September registering a historical maximum of year-on-year demand in the service, and has exceeded 20 million passengers per year, after an August with a high volume of passengers.

Although activity in the metropolitan area decreases in summer, the number of tram users in August has increased compared to last year.

The aforementioned month closed with a total of 1,554,703 travelers, a growth of 68.7% compared to August 2022.

Interannual demand at the end of August was close to 20 million, a figure that was exceeded in the first week of this month.

Free passes represent around 82% of total cancellations, and 25% of tram users travel using the ten+móvil application.

The Minister of Mobility of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Eulalia García, has reported that demand continues its upward trend at the beginning of September and that, in this first week of the month, more than 417,000 cancellations have been quantified, compared to 268,000. which were recorded in the same week of 2022.

“This is very positive data that makes it clear that citizens are increasingly opting for public transport, in this case the tram,” he added.

García recalled that a tram has recently been added to line 1, which will reinforce the service and provide a greater frequency of trams in service.

“The normal frequency had been 5 minutes, but with the incorporation of the new vehicles, it will be possible to reach approximately 4 and a half minutes of frequency for each stop,” he said.
