SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Parliament of the Canary Islands approved this Wednesday an institutional declaration in which it pays tribute to Miguel Ángel Blanco, PP councilor in Ermua, for the twenty-sixth anniversary of his kidnapping and subsequent murder at the hands of the terrorist group ETA.

The text, read by the president of the Chamber, Astrid Pérez, also remembers the memory of the more than 850 people murdered by the gang and points out that the defense of democracy “not only requires the commitment of all political forces in the present , but also demands their unwavering commitment to the preservation of the memory of the victims and to the knowledge, especially by the youngest, of the history of the terrorist group ETA.”

In this sense, it states that we must not forget the “profound damage” that ETA has generated in the history of Spain and the “threat” that terrorism poses to freedom and democracy in all countries of the world.

Thus, the Chamber demands “memory, dignity and justice” for the victims and expresses its “gratitude and recognition” to the State Security Forces and Bodies for their “commendable work in their constant fight against terrorism.”

Parliament also reaffirms its “commitment” to the dissemination of the memory of the victims of terrorism and expresses its “most absolute rejection of any attempt to whitewash or justify the terrorist activity of ETA”, while rejecting any act of exaltation of ETA terrorists and condemns the use of violence to achieve political goals.

He also expresses his desire that the 379 ETA crimes still unsolved “do not remain forgotten and are duly investigated without sparing resources, until their material and intellectual authors pay for their crimes.”
