The galas of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife They already have directors. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has reported that Daniel Pages will direct the election galas for the children’s and senior queens of the carnival of the capital of Tenerife in 2024, while Jep Melendez will be in charge of choosing the queen of the party.
Next year’s carnival in the capital of Tenerife will be dedicated to television and the Councilor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, has highlighted the trajectory of Jep Meléndez and Daniel Pages, of whom he has highlighted their “deep” knowledge of the carnival party.
He has also valued his “commitment and creativity that characterize all his work”, for which he predicts that it will be a perfect tandem for the coming-out of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and for the shows that will present its three queens. .
For Caraballero, the 2024 edition has the added challenge of being practically overlapping with the Christmas and Epiphany festivities, but he believes that “it will not be an excuse that detracts one iota of brilliance from any of the galas”, but “quite the contrary” , it will be a “boost”
The inaugural act of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be held on January 12, and the galas for the election of the children’s and adult queens will be directed by Daniel Pages on the 28th and 31st of that month, while Jep Meléndez will lead the the Carnival Queen election gala on February 7.
Jep Meléndez is a choreographer and artistic director, as well as a body percussionist, tap dancer and “sand dancer” trained in various schools in Barcelona and New York.
His works include CAMBUYON (artistic direction, choreography and interpreter) presented at the 4th International Body Music Festival in San Francisco in 2011 and premiered in Tenerife and Barcelona in 2012.
It has also performed in theaters and festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2013) and The New Victory Theater (2015) off-Broadway in New York; CAMUT BAND (main dancer) in the shows Keatoniana, Tambors, La Vida es Ritmo and Kiting-Kitá, with which he has performed for over a decade. He has also been company captain of the show Pampidam of the MAYUMANA company.
His connection with the carnival began in 2009 in Maspalomas (Gran Canaria), where he assumed artistic direction and choreography. She took charge of the choreography of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival in the 2016, 2017 and 2019 editions.
He has also done artistic direction and choreography for the Valverde Carnival 2018, and a choreographic collaboration at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival in 2016.
Daniel Pages has a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the Pontifical University of Salamanca and a Master’s Degree in Multimedia Design from the Escuela Superior Elisava in Barcelona, combining his work as a designer with the artistic direction of events and the creation of carnival fantasies.
In 2008 and after winning the “National Gold award for the best online direct marketing campaign”, she decided to take a radical turn and return to her native Canary Islands to fulfill her dream of becoming a queen at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival.
In 2011, she participated for the first time in the carnival in the capital of Tenerife, obtaining, together with the designer Eduardo Martín, the title of Children’s Queen.
In 2012, she made the leap to the adult gala, winning a First Maid of Honor. In 2014 and 2016 she won the title of Carnival Queen of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and in 2023 she again won the child queen.
