Los Abrigos has a sailor shelter which houses a few boats attached to the Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, in Los Cristianos, to which fishermen from the municipalities of Granadilla de Abona, Arona and Adeje also belong.

In total, it is 26 boats purse seiners that unload in facilities that lack protection against waves. In fact, this one did its thing last August, in front of a large exhibition area, in which there is not enough space for the purse seine vessels that belong to it.

The tides caused various damages to various points of the dock, such as the lights, the asphalt or the elements that guarantee accessibility.

To discuss this matter, the Granadilla de Abona City Council called a meeting with representatives of Puertos Canarios, to which the dock belongs, and the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Brotherhood itself, whose president, Manuel Díaz Marcelino, was present, in his capacity. representative of the Los Abrigos Fishermen’s Association. The councilor for Public Services, Works, Ecological Transition and Beaches, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, and the councilor for the Primary Sector, Bianca Cerbán, attended on behalf of the municipal corporation.

All this at the gates of the town’s festivities in honor of San Blas, within the framework of which the boat pilgrimage took place on Sunday. Councilor Bianca Cerbán stated that “we wanted to raise with Ports issues that concern residents, such as the accumulation of sand, which prevents normal maneuvering, as well as accessibility or lighting.”
