Red Cross acquires a new logistics warehouse in Tenerife which is intended to strengthen your reaction capabilities in the event of any emergency that may arise on the Island. To this end, the Island Council contributedat 200,000 euros to this initiative in order to provide “an efficient and effective response to the needs of the resident community and visitors.”
The humanitarian entity receives this subsidy from the Natural Environment and Security Management Area for the acquisition of this property for the storage, classification and dispatch of logistical material, which could be used in case of emergency on the island of Tenerife.
The investment is fully in line with the strategic objectives of the Cabildo, in order to “strengthen resilience and preparation for high-impact emergencies.” In initiatives like this, the ability to provide “an efficient and effective response” to the needs of the community prevails.
Versatile use
The logistics warehouse, located in the San Isidro-El Chorrillo industrial estate, in the municipality of El Rosario, has an area of 388 square meters. It has an architectural configuration that allows versatile use of space, compatible with the demands of industrial storage and emergency operation. This new acquisition represents a reinforcement of the capacities and response mechanisms of the humanitarian organization in terms of relief and emergency.
The tool is designed for the possible specialized care for people affected by critical situations that may occur in Tenerife. To do this, you will be provided with material resources such as blankets, personal hygiene kits, folding stretchers, food, emergency vehicles, etc.
Likewise, the operational base will have a human team, made up of volunteers and contracted personnel, who will work from these facilities in the Immediate Emergency Response Teams (ERIE), specialized in health care and the classification of victims; psychosocial intervention; the temporary shelter; communications and coordination of personnel; search and rescue in the terrestrial and aquatic environment and humanitarian aid to immigrants. In addition to the rest of the personnel that coordinates aquatic and land preventive services, maritime rescue and medical transportation.
The strategic location It also facilitates access and rapid mobilization in case of emergencies, which means having an adequate geographic location for operation in the event of any emergency on the Island.
As a result of the latest alerts of different conditions in the Archipelago, the need to strengthen the Red Cross’ logistical infrastructure is evident. One way to achieve this is to consolidate its role as a collaborating entity in the National Civil Protection System. This acquisition of a new property is part of a broader strategy to support humanitarian action and civil protection, in line with current and presumed future demands.
Red Cross has 159 years of collaboration with public and private entities in 192 countries. In Spain it has more than 263,000 volunteers to respond in more than 6,500 municipalities, which allows it to serve 12.2 million people annually at the national level and more than 13.4 million internationally. All this with the support of nearly 1.4 million members.
