TENERIFE FIRE | Robles bypasses the seaplane base in Tenerife but is open to “improving” firefighting services

The Acting Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, this Thursday avoided taking a position on the request of the Cabildo de Tenerife that the island has a seaplane base permanent to face possible fires forestry but yes has left the door open to “improve” in firefighting services.

In statements to journalists on the occasion of a visit to Tenerife to assess the damage from the forest fire and thank the work of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) has highlighted that The Ministry is “always improving” and try to “do your best.”

In that sense, he has assessed that Canary Islands “feels very proud” of the EMU staff and the work carried out during the fire, which was “very difficult” and “very complicated”, to the point that they get “a lot of experiences” for the future.

Robles has pointed out that when there is a fire, apart from the lives of people and property, there is also “risk” for the workers of the extinguishing device and that is why he has influenced the “enormous debt of gratitude” to allboth the professionals of the UME and the rest of the bodies.

He has also said that all members of the detachment “are canaries”heor that allows them to know the orography of the islands wellbut it has not ignored that many faced the “human drama” that there were homes close to the fire that belonged to their relatives.

The minister also has emphasized the “great work” carried out by the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo, which shows that “when there is a tragedy” all administrations work together with “effectiveness and professionalism.” “There are no political colors,” she added.
