Tram restraining order for a traveler who destroyed eight validating machines

The Criminal Court 8 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife sentences a man not to approach the Tenerife tram for two years for destroying eight card validating machines with his fists on the route between Laguna and Santa Cruz in February 2021.

Other tram users alerted the Local Police and, when the patrol car showed up, this man admitted that he had broken several tram devices and that “he didn’t care” “with a cocky attitude.” As stated in the sentence, after the confession of the facts, he was arrested.

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through Metropolitano, appeared as a private prosecution in the case. In a statement, the island government points out that this type of behavior is unacceptable and that it is a duty to ensure good compliance with services and the safety of travelers and users of public transport.

The author of these acts of vandalism had already carried out other similar acts. The judge has sentenced him to one year in prison, which has been suspended on the condition that he does not commit a crime again within a period of two years and the prohibition to approach or use the tram for a period of two years. In addition, he sentences him to pay 2,000 euros to Metropolitano, an amount that amounted to the damage he caused.
