As expected, after the PP abstained on June 17 in the vote to elect the new local government of Arico, yesterday the pact between this party and the PSOE was made official, the party that until now had been governing the municipality in a minority (six councillors). In this pact, Olivia Delgado (PSOE) will remain mayor for 30 months and Andrés Martínez (PP) will be mayor for the last year and a half.
The Socialists were the most voted list, with 43.34% of the votes, which gave them six councillors. The PP was the fourth force, with 12.63% of the votes and two councillors. In second place was Coalición Canaria, with 21.26% (three councilors) and third place was occupied by Arico Somos Todos, with two councilors.
The decree of the Mayor’s Office published yesterday names the four new deputy mayors and details the areas that have been assigned to them, so that the popular ones take over the first and third tenure of Mayor, and the PSOE, with the other two . They are, in this order, Andrés Martínez (PP), Ariam Stefany Álvarez (PSOE), Eudalia José Pestano (PP) and Agustín Tejera (PSOE). The first deputy mayor will occupy the areas of Works Planning and Urbanism; Sport and Youth. Ariam Stefany Álvarez Trujillo, second deputy mayor, will direct Employment; Public Services and Works; Parties; Hiring; Living place; Coasts and Ports, and Historical Heritage.
Eudelia José Pestano Marrero will direct Citizen Participation; Tourism; Local and Economic Development; Equality; Industry and, finally, Transport.
Finally, the fourth deputy mayor, Agustín Tejera Dorta, will direct the Environment and Waste; Internal Regime; Social Welfare; Health, Sanitation and Addictions; Primary sector; Culture; Education; Animal Welfare, and Seniors. For her part, the mayoress, Olivia María Delgado Oval, will lead the areas of the Presidency; Institutional Relations; Citizen Security and Mobility; Economy and Treasury, Budgets and Municipal Patrimony.
Delgado was mayor of Arico from June 11, 2011 to April 20, 2012 and governed in a PSOE, CCN and PP pact, until these parties made a motion of no confidence, signed, among others, by Andrés Martínez, now your partner. In 2019 Delgado was mayor again, with a pact with Primero Arico, only from June 15 to November 25, until her partner, CC and PP, also with Martínez as the protagonist, once again made a motion of no confidence.
