SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Socialist Parliamentary Group has registered in the Parliament of the Canary Islands different requests for the appearance of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, to report on the management of the regional Executive in the fire that occurred in Tenerife this August once it has been stabilized.
In addition, the Socialists have requested two other appearances on the restoration plans planned after the fire and on the forest fire prevention plans for the entire Canary Islands.
The socialist spokesman, Sebastián Franquis, points out in a note that these appearances are intended for the President of the Government to explain to the public the management that has been carried out by the regional Executive to extinguish the fire, and to avoid in the future “more tragedies” of these characteristics in the archipelago.
In this sense, he points out that it is necessary to know the measures that have been adopted to deal with the fire and also about the fire prevention and extinction policies planned in the Canary Islands to avoid this type of catastrophes that are increasingly difficult to face due to the effects of climate change.
“For this reason, prevention and extinction policies must be united and coordinated to be effective,” he says.
For Franquis, the coordination work of all public administrations is essential, not only in extinguishing the fire, but also in the recovery of the island’s ecosystem after this type of catastrophe, and thereby prevent the desertification process from accelerating. It is already underway as a result of climate change.
“The previous Government of the Canary Islands was always aware, and for this reason we were pioneers in the declaration of a climate emergency in the Canary Islands and the approval of the Canarian Law on Climate Change,” he points out.
It also considers it necessary for the Government of the Canary Islands to report on the aid that it plans to implement in the areas affected by the fire.
Franquis has reiterated the gratitude on the part of the Socialist Group for the work of all the professionals who have been working from the outset to extinguish this fire in Tenerife, and highlights the contribution of the Government of Spain chaired by Pedro Sánchez with human resources and materials for its extinction, as well as the declaration of a catastrophic zone to facilitate the restoration of normality to the people affected and to the island.
“All our solidarity with the evacuated population and all our support,” he says.
