The Santa Cruz City Council maintains, during the weekend, the prohibition of the use of water for non-essential activities until normality is recovered in the supply in the Southwest district, as well as the irrigation of soccer fields that are authorized to host sporting events this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For this reason, the council insists on the need to use water responsibly and reminds us that it is not allowed to fill public and private swimming pools, clean vehicles in car wash services and in homes, and wash down water. in private patios and rooftops.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, has stated that “little by little normality is returning, but the flow that the upper part of the district receives is still insufficient to return to the previous situation.” “So,” he said, “we must be aware that it is important to maintain this moderate consumption, both in private homes and in public facilities, so that the gradual return to normality does not negatively affect home supply, whose Recovery continues to be our priority.”
José Manuel Bermúdez thanked the citizens of the district, and the rest of the municipality, for “the solidarity shown these days, making responsible use and following the majority of the recommendations issued by the City Council.”
For his part, the Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, has indicated that “we are recovering normality in the water supply in the Southwest district, but we cannot let our guard down. Given the deterioration these days, due to the fire, of the channels that supply us with water, we are obliged to maintain these measures for the weekend so that all the residents of the Southwest have water suitable for consumption ” .
“We ask, once again, for the solidarity of the neighbors, who until now have shown exemplary behavior in this situation,” added Carlos Tarife.
It should be remembered that, since the beginning of the incidents in the water supply in the district, a series of measures have been taken to mitigate their effects. Thus, the municipal water company, EMMASA, carried out an emergency work that alleviated the water deficit with liquid from other areas of the municipality through two 2.5-kilometre-long pipes. Likewise, the reduced flow of water that reached La Gallega and the upper area of Llano del Moro has been complemented by tank trucks and the aforementioned transfer itself, while in El Tablero it has been possible to complement the supply, coming from the Portezuelo River, with Cuba trucks.
During the first days of this emergency, different points of water supply to the public were placed in three areas of the district and during the day, both directly by tanker trucks and through the distribution of water jugs. This situation that yesterday Thursday ceased to occur due to the gradual recovery in normality in the supply to homes
