Act of vandalism against the sculpture ‘Mobile’ in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The sculpture ‘Mobile’ of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has suffered a vandalism this Friday after dawn stained with yellow paint. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has reported that the damage will be repaired “as soon as possible”, although it has not ruled on who or who may have been the cause.

The Councilor for Culture, Santiago Díaz Mejías, has assured that “these acts of vandalism cannot be tolerated” towards some sculptures that “are part of the cultural heritage of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and of our history”, at the same time that he has indicated that ” although it is going to proceed to its repair, which supposes an important disbursement of money from the municipal coffers which, after all, is money contributed by all” it is necessary to transfer to the citizens the importance of “the conservation and care of our sculptures in the street”.

The figure was built in 1973 by Francisco Sobrino with various industrial materials, such as stainless steel, Plexiglas or polyester, and is located in the Plaza de la República Dominicana, at the height of the Rambla, between Avenida de Bélgica and San Sebastián street.
