He Tenerife forest fire that was declared during the early hours of Wednesday, August 16 in the municipalities of Arafo and Candelaria, has progressed through the North of the Island to affect more than 13,000 hectares. The flames or smoke have affected a total of twelve municipalities, Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, El Sauzal, Tacoronte, La Matanza, Güímar, Fasnia and Los Realejos, and have entered the Teide National Park. While the extinction forces continue to fight to contain the fire, the evicted residents begin to return to their homes: Almost 10,000 can now return home.
