The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutierrezhas conveyed the condolences of the entire corporation to the family and friends of Luis Davilaand has ensured that “The lagoon lose one of your great references in the field of culture and its traditional festivals, and especially in the field of Carnival, to which he breathed new life with his creations, the result of tireless work and an enormous love for his land”.
Born in 1946 on the day of the Christ of La Laguna festivity, he studied Teaching in his hometown and later began working as a window dresser, although very soon his interest in Carnival and his great artistic skills led him to be closely linked to these festivities for more than four decades thanks to his designs for comparsas, rondallas, musical groups, murgas and, of course, adult queens, children and adults, collects a note from the Government.
Luis Dávila dedicated a large part of his time to studies and investigations of different aspects of the folklore of the Canary Islands, the best known being those dedicated to the uses and customs in the way of dressing of the people of Tenerife, to the point that one of the greatest experts in the traditional dress of this island.
In the same way, his great manual skills led him to be one of the few doll-making artisans on the island, working on techniques such as cloth, papier-mâché or ceramic techniques.
Designer, painter, author of posters, lecturer, popularizer, Luis Dávila “was an extraordinary personality, who overflowed with generosity and creativity in equal parts and whose legacy will always be remembered by those of us who were lucky enough to know him”, assured the mayor.
