The Tenerife II prison runs out of water due to the forest fire

The Tenerife II penitentiary center has suffered a water supply cut since this past Monday due to a forest fire after the facilities’ own tank ran out. As reported by sources from Penitentiary Institutions to EFE, they are trying to make up for this supply interruption with water tanks, in addition to providing the 840 inmates with two liter and a half bottles of water every day, at noon and at night.

But apart from water for consumption, the center needs to be supplied for the kitchen, the “basic needs” in the cells or for cleaning, “with restrictions for everyone,” the sources clarify. And for this the idea is to ensure that the supply of water with tanks is “stable”.

The deputy of the Común, Rafael Yanes, has announced this Tuesday that he will open an ex officio action to find out the situation of the inmates of the Tenerife II Penitentiary Center, in the municipality of El Rosario. Rafael Yanes has considered that the situation these people are going through is “very serious” and will request the Ombudsman of Spain to act urgently before the Ministry of the Interior.

The mother of one of the inmates has contacted the Deputy of the Common to inform him that they have been without a water supply for days, both for consumption and for personal hygiene and from the management they only provide one bottle of water to each person at the day. Penitentiary Institutions affirms that “there are two”.

In such a case, Rafael Yanes has contacted the mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, who has told him that he has been telling the Tenerife II management for some time that it is vitally important that they have their own water supply infrastructure for emergency situations. emergency “but they have not paid attention to me”, according to the note of the Diputación del Común.

Previously, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council had also reported that this Tuesday it had sent a tank of water to the Tenerife II prison.
