The air quality is very unfavorable in 19 municipalities of Tenerife



The air quality as a consequence of the forest fire has become very unfavorable this Monday in 19 Tenerife municipalities, and in particular in Los Realejos, La Orotava and Arafo, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordination Center 112.

On the northern slope of the island, in addition to the aforementioned municipalities of Los Realejos and La Orotava, the air quality is also very unfavorable in El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, Buenavista del Norte, Los Silos, Garachico, Icod de los Vinos, La Guancha and San Juan de la Rambla. In the south of Tenerife, in addition to Arafo, the air is very unfavorable in Candelaria, Güímar, Fasnia and Arico.

Smoke from forest fires is made up of a mixture of gases and small particles that are emitted by the combustion of vegetation and other materials.

Symptoms and risk groups

The 1-1-2 Emergency and Safety Coordination Center of the Canary Islands (CECOES 1-1-2) considers that the risk groups are people with previous respiratory or heart diseases, such as asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, children, women pregnant women and the elderly, people who perform intense physical activity and people with reduced mobility.

Likely symptoms are coughing; eye, nose, or throat irritation; shortness of breath deeply, chest discomfort, palpitations, fatigue; aggravation of symptoms in people with previous respiratory or cardiac diseases.

The CECOES recommends that the affected population avoid staying outside and carrying out intense or prolonged physical activities, close doors, windows, if you have air conditioning, put it in recirculation mode and with clean filters, use outdoors is recommended FFP2 mask to avoid respiratory problems and protect your eyes as much as possible, wash them if necessary and pay attention to the instructions they receive from the civil protection authorities.
