“As soon as the fire is overcome, in short, when it is considered controlled, the Council of Ministers, of course, will approve the declaration of an area seriously affected by a civil protection emergency, what colloquially everyone knows by declaration of a catastrophic zone ”, has advanced.
The next few hours will be crucial to control the fire. “I hope the weather is with us” said the president, who has insisted on good coordination between the Government of the Canary Islands, councils and town halls in the extinction work. “We are contributing all the necessary resources and the coordination between the administrations is being excellent”, he stressed.
Sánchez recalled that it was in La Palma where an important conference of regional presidents and presidents was held where the civil protection response throughout the country was modernized. In the context of the volcanic eruption that the island experienced, this cooperation between administrations in this matter was updated, which “allows us to be more effective in these emergencies.”
He also made reference to the fact that there have been no losses of human life and highlighted the joint work of “public servants” involved in the extinction work, especially, taking into account that “devastating” fires in other areas of the world, apart from ” depleting a large part of the natural patrimony” are claiming human lives.
The acting president has insisted that the disposition of the Government of Spain since the start of this fire has been “total and absolute” and has stressed that this “presence” will continue after the extinction. “All of Spain is with the Canary Islands and with Tenerife”, he remarked.
In addition, he has celebrated “exemplary behavior” and the “civic commitment” of the citizenry as a whole, which is especially relevant, he said, in the face of this type of fire that “in an overwhelming way” exhibits its “catastrophic power”.

Sánchez referred to the work carried out by the media in view of the need for citizens to have “reliable, truthful information about what is happening, about the evolution of the fire”, to “avoid hoaxes, disinformation, which they cause anguish”, as pointed out by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila (CC).
During Sánchez’s visit, the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, also thanked “the attention, support and coordination” with the central Executive.
