The Aguamansa canal, in La Orotava, which suffered a breakdown in the area affected by the forest fire on the island, is now operationalhas reported the Cabildo de Tenerife.
This hydraulic infrastructure supplies municipalities from Los Realejos to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and supplies, in turn, the pipelines of the Victoria Santa Cruz Canal, Dornajos-Los Baldíos pipeline, Unión Victoria-La Matanza Canal.
The owners of the channel, the team of the Tenerife Fire Department and technicians from the Tenerife Island Water Council tried to access the channel on Friday, but the fire that affected the area prevented the repair work from being carried out.
The Cabildo reports that as a provisional measure, flows were diverted from a point prior to the rupture to the North Canal -through the so-called Bajante de la Morra-, to be distributed among the affected municipalities and the population was asked to consume responsible water.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, points out that The repair of the Aguamansa Canal has been prioritized because it is a strategic infrastructure for all the municipalities affected by the forest fire.
The works have been complicated because at first there were flames in Aguamansa, so on Friday they gave up accessing the area.
The personnel of the Tenerife Fire Consortium have accompanied the technicians today to ensure that they could carry out the repair work safely and put the hydraulic infrastructure into operation.
