The families and people affected by the tragedy of Spanair flight JK5022 have commemorated this Sunday the 1st5th anniversary of the plane crash in the hope of finding “peace and justice soon” that allows them to continue living and turn the page, with their eyes set on the fire in Tenerife.
The vice president of the Association of People Affected by Flight JK5022 (AVJK5022), Federico Sosahas read the entity’s manifesto on this 15th anniversary at the Luces en el Vacío monument, in the Los Nidillos area of the Las Canteras beachwhich was erected to honor the 154 fatalities and 18 injured that the tragedy had as a balance.
“The association renews its commitment to the objectives that for years have been in favor of the common goodwe have learned from suffering and we generously put it at the service of society in general,” Sosa pointed out in the presence of relatives, supporters and political authorities from the islands.
He has defended that air safety “It has no ideology other than the lives of its passengers and in that effort we must all be united“, especially in a territory like the island, in which the plane “is essential in the life of the canaries and Gran Canaria He has already paid a very high price among his children that cannot be repeated”.
In the last year, the association has received a response from the Prosecutor’s Office in which it filed the complaint filed based on the opinion of the investigation commission of the Congress of Deputies in which it was concluded that the tragedy was caused by a systemic failure in Spanish air safety.
“The Prosecutor’s Office that supposedly defends the victims put us to work and they must not have liked what we presented to them because they chose – for that they have the powers – to file it without further explanation,” he has censured.
Sosa recalled that the AVJK5022 “resists together with a handful of families, hundreds of friends, collaborators and supporters more than 15 years later“, to later comment that, although some of those affected people have turned the page as is their right, they will continue fighting “for the memory of their dead.”
Words of encouragement for the fire in Tenerife
At the beginning of the emotional act, in which three family members read emotionally charged poems that brought tears to many of those present, Federico Sosa wanted to have words of encouragement for the population of the tenerife islandaffected since Tuesday night by a voracious forest fire that has already devastated some 10,000 hectares.
“We show the support of the affected families to the population of Tenerife and with the desire for a prompt extinction of the flames, that does not cause more damage, no more pain no more tragedies“, he wished.
In the act they have participated The Minister of Public Works of the Government of the Canary IslandsPablo Rodriguez (CC)the acting president of the Council of Gran Canaria, Augusto Hidalgo (PSOE), and the mayor of The Gran Canarian palms (PSOE), as well as island and municipal political representatives from different parties such as the PP and VOX.
Hidalgo has shown the support of the insular Institution in the claim of the association to achieve that August 20 be declared a day for the commemoration of the victims of air accidents and their families.
“Special days are not capricious actions, but mean transferring to the dimension that deserves the memory of what happened in Spain on August 20, 2008, so that not only those affected remember the event”, said the acting president of the Gran Canaria Cabildo.
Hidalgo has also highlighted the work that the association has done over the years and how, “thanks to the tenacity and commitment of those strong hearts of the relatives” progress has been made that has meant “a before and after in air safety conditions in Spain”.
After reading the manifesto, and with the chords of a cellist in the background, the families were placing, as is the tradition, white roses in the 154 holes of the monument that reflect each of the lives claimed by the plane crash that August 20, 2008.
