the fire of Tenerife continues unbridled, affecting more than 5,000 hectares and a perimeter greater than 50 kilometers of eleven municipalities. The fire, which is destroying the island’s green landscape, is leaving surprising images that we would never have wanted to see.
One of the most striking in recent hours is a fiery tornado that a neighbor has captured in the area of the Izaña peaks, near the Observatory of the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics (IAC).
In fact, preventively, during the afternoon-night of this Friday, the Izaña IAC facilities were already evicted.
Fire tornado
A fire tornadoalso called a fire whirl, is a rare-to-see phenomenon that is created when fire reaches certain conditions based on air temperature and currents.
As its name suggests, it adopts an image similar to that of a tornado, creating a vertical column of fire.
As in this case, this type of phenomenon is usually formed in forest fires in which ascending and converging currents of warm air are produced.
