The City Council of San Miguel de Abona expresses its satisfaction with the disposition of the Cabildo de Tenerife and of the Government of the Canary Islands «To face both the works to improve the facilities of the Mirador La Centinela and the creation of an interpretation center». The measure is in line with the approaches formulated by the San Miguel municipal government for years, especially during the past term.
The mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González, maintains that «Institutional collaboration is key to addressing this challenge and promoting what now seems to be a reality, How is the adaptation of this exceptional place that is in a state of abandonment?
The councilor was part of the delegation that inspected the place last week, led by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Davila; the vice president of said Corporation, Lope Afonso; the director of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Government of Canary Islands, Miguel Angel Clavijo; and the mayoress of Arona, Fátima Lemes.
The La Centinela Viewpoint, located at the foot of Roque de Jama, is part of the natural landscape of San Miguel de Abona and has become a benchmark for the municipality on a cultural, heritage and emotional level. Thus, in the words of the mayor, Arturo González, It should be remembered that about three years ago, the San Miguelero City Council requested the Cabildo de Tenerife itself, the use and management of these facilities through a collaboration agreement between both administrations, to avoid their impairment and reinforce its value at all levels.
The San Miguelero City Council acquired the land that the viewpoint occupies in 1992 and ceded it to the Cabildo, the administration that carried out the construction, now closed, in a state of abandonment and deteriorated. It is located on the land of San Miguel de Abona (the majority) and Arona.
