The City Council of La Laguna, through the Department of the Primary Sector, has signed an agreement with the Association of the Primary and Craft Sector Saberes y Sabores del Nordeste (ASPASS-Nordeste), with the aim of promoting short marketing channels and continuing in the development of the Agrarian Market of the region. One of these channels was the launch, last December, of the Northeast Market, which was born with an itinerant character and which, at the request of the producers themselves, has ended up becoming a fixed space that can be visited in Tejina.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, assures that “this type of agreement strengthens the relationship between the City Council and the producers of the agricultural, livestock and fishing sector, as well as the artisan sector, something that will allow us to work together to promote the zero kilometer product facilitating direct sales at farms, markets, markets and even online sales”.

The mayor wanted to influence this aspect because it is a “dynamizing element of the economy” that favors direct sales by connecting these groups of producers with the final consumer without the need to go through intermediaries.

In this way, the Department of the Primary Sector, headed by Leticia Villegas, intends to improve the visibility and competitiveness of small producers with the aim of giving value to their work, an objective that they share with ASPASS-Northeast. To this we must add that this collaboration agreement also aims for the Northeast Market to strengthen its position as a strategic center for producers in the region.

During the month of August and the first Sunday of September, on the occasion of the festival of San Bartolomé de Tejina, the market has changed its usual place, in the Plaza de la Iglesia, for the El Patio Cultural Space, on Tomás González Rivero street. nº 9, very close to its usual location.

This Sunday, in addition to the usual Market activity, attendees will be able to enjoy a series of events including: a breakfast for the boys and girls who participated in the Storytelling, Drawing, Comics and Storytelling Contest organized by the Association Hearts of Tejina, in El Patio; the celebration of the Day of the Mascot, from 9:00 am, in the Plaza de la Iglesia; and the Maresía Workshop, at 11:00 am, in El Patio. This workshop will be gutting and cutting different seasonal fish.
