The Council of Tenerife allocates five million euros for scholarships aimed at university students, those with special needs, those who are in Vocational Training or are enrolled in artistic studies. The Island Government Council, held yesterday, also approved a credit of 5.6 million euros to boost care for immigrant minors.
The island councilor of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, pointed out that “this is an important investment to improve the training of our young people.” He also recalled that “the Cabildo has been making a significant effort for years to train these boys and girls so that they are better prepared to face the labor market in a world that is increasingly competitive and globalized”.
Medina stressed that, “in the case of students with special needs, we are talking about people who suffer from some type of disability and who need the support of the Cabildo to be able to access better training.”
Social action
In the area of Social Action, the Governing Council approved a credit of 5,688,407 euros for the care of immigrant minors. The item also includes the technical assistance contract for the renewal of the Unicef Child-Friendly City seal of recognition, which contemplates the evaluation of the Insular Plan for Children and Adolescents, the participatory diagnosis of the situation of this sector of the population in Tenerife or the design of the new Island Plan.
Momentum to renew the seal of ‘Child-Friendly City’ and the diagnosis of the population sector
Unanimity
The insular plenary session proposed last April the candidacy of the Island to renew this seal, granted for the period 2018-2023. The unanimous will was to keep this emblem to the policy island developed in the field of childhood and adolescence, in addition to continuing to work to preserve it; a recognition that validates the commitment to the childhood group, for the defense of their rights and the improvement of their well-being. The Island Corporation obtained the Child Friendly City seal in October 2018 in recognition of the policies and action plans developed in a participatory manner with local administrations and entities, focused on protecting and meeting the needs of children and adolescents . The badge was awarded through the Spanish Committee of Unicef.
Tourism
As for the Tourism area, the modified project for the recovery work of the Las Eras beach breakwater, in the municipality of Fasnia, was approved for a total budget of 595,949 euros. This is an initiative included in the Tenerife and the Sea programme.
Roads
The Governing Council also approved the awarding of contracts for the improvement and rehabilitation of the TF-652 and TF-662 in Arona, as well as the conditioning of the TF-12 highway in the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Lagoon. The global amount of the awards amounts to more than five million euros.
