The new delimitation of port spaces and uses of the Port of Granadilla, whose approval allows the incorporation of water and land spaces located in front of the thermal power plant of the Industrial Estate into the Port Authority’s management, for now managed by the General Directorate of Costs, and the concessions in force in this area. All of this will make it possible to connect the port with its service area located on the north bank, currently subject to an expropriation process due to the declaration of public utility of the area.
Specifically, the current 60-hectare port public domain will be connected to the port itself, and the 180-hectare reserve area located to the north (pending expropriation), since up to now there is no continuity between the two environments.
This fact is relevant since such a measure will make it easier for the port to connect directly with the Autopista del Sur without having to cross the road of the Granadilla Industrial Estate, giving direct access and exit from the facility to all types of transport. In addition, the unification will allow the establishment of a customs area connected to the entire port area, whose affiliation was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) yesterday.
As reported by the Port Authority, the port area also includes land in the public maritime-terrestrial domain that is currently occupied by the Granadilla power plant, closely linked to the new port given the need to receive fuel for its operation by sea, avoiding the dangerousness of this type of transport through the insular road. “Its proximity to the port will be even more necessary if we take into account future plans to decarbonise electricity production with transition fuels such as natural gas or zero-emission fuels, such as green hydrogen.”
ports of Tenerife points out that the power plant requires a new administrative concession by the port administration that will include the expansion request made by Endesa, holder of the original concession, to install, moored to the dock, a floating liquefied natural gas storage unit, with capacity for 80,000 cubic meters, which includes a regasification plant. The purpose of this facility is to supply natural gas to said plant, making its decarbonization possible and the supply of liquefied natural gas for ship supply service providers.
The Port Authority also reports that it has carried out the public information process for the expropriation file for 180 hectares in the reserve area and has prepared the file for the Government Delegation to declare the need for occupation, which is pending the report that must issue the State Attorney’s Office.
