These are some of the conclusions of the index prepared by the savings website Kelisto.es (www.kelisto.es)*, which analyzes how much consumers must spend to access the same products and services in the different Spanish provincial capitals. The analysis takes into account the data from the 50 provincial capitals, plus the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. For each one of them, figures have been examined on 17 products and services from six categories: housing (purchase and rental), taxes (IBI, circulation tax and garbage rate), household bills (home insurance, car, electricity and gas), public and private transport (price of a single bus ticket, taxis and gasoline), shopping (shopping basket, cost of a loaf of bread and a liter of milk) and leisure (price of a movie ticket and a mug of beer). To determine which are the most expensive and cheapest locations, the difference with respect to the national average in all variables and for all cities has been calculated. These percentages have been added and divided by the number of variables analyzed in each case.
In general terms, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is among the cheapest capitals in the country: with a cost of living 5.38% below the average, the capital ranks 15th among the cheapest. For its part, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria occupies an intermediate position in the table: it is ranked 26th in the general ranking, with a cost of living 1.86% below the average.
