The pilgrimage trails to Candelaria on the occasion of the feast of the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands will remain closed. The prohibition of using them to walk to Villa Mariana is due to the current episode of high temperatures, whose duration is expected to cover the main days of this celebration. This was announced by the Councilwhich announced the closure of the access roads to the Teide National Park and the forest trails.
The Island Councilor for the Natural Environment and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, presented the security device that will be operational during the popular festivals in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, together with the insular director of Security and Emergencies, Iván Martín; the mayoress of the Villa, Mari Brito, and the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Francisco Alonso.

All this, coordinated with the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (Cecoes) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands, with the participation of the State security forces and bodies.

The Councilor for Emergencies of the Cabildo, Blanca Pérez, indicated that this preventive device will work fundamentally to avoid the transit of pilgrims through the forest area of the Island (paths and tracks), where there is an express prohibition of said activity due to the situation of maximum alert for forest fires, offering as an alternative and providing total security to the road officially authorized to carry out the pilgrimage, which is the general carreta del sur (TF-28). Mari Brito, mayoress of Candelaria, He pointed out that it is essential to guarantee the safety of pilgrims and urged them to follow the recommendations, as well as to use public transport by bus and the transport itself at the request of the municipality, which will have special services. In fact, Candelaria’s On-Demand Urban Transport will provide a free service from the old bus station, located on Rambla de Los Menceyes, to Plaza de Teror on Monday (from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.) and Tuesday (from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
