SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Arico City Council, in a preventive measure aimed at guaranteeing the safety of visitors and residents, has issued a statement to refrain from bathing in coastal areas where the presence of microalgae is observed. This measure was taken after the detection on Tuesday, August 8, of massive spots of supposed microalgae at different points along the municipal coast.
The microalgae, identifiable by the anomalous change in the color of the water, are characterized by their brown and brown tones, as well as by their viscous appearance and the strong odor emanating from their condensation, which have led to this safety recommendation issued by the mayor’s office.
The mayor, Olivia Delgado, explained that “the municipal security services have been closely monitoring the situation and that, in accordance with their commitment to prevention for the best enjoyment of our beaches, it has been decided to advise against bathing in the affected areas. until the concentration levels of microalgae disappear.”
Delgado explained that “samples have been taken on various beaches in the municipality for analysis in order to confirm whether it is microalgae and rule out possible effects on people and the environment. The council will continue to monitor the situation and will update the information about the conditions of our coast”.
