The Cabildo will reinforce actions aimed at promoting fishery products from Tenerife and the purchase and consumption of fishing products from the Island. This was conveyed by the insular councilor of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, to the chief patron of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria Fishermen’s Guild, Víctor Díaz, during the meeting they held, he promised to promote lines of work that strengthen the promotion of fishing products .
Valentín González announced that “from the Cabildo we want to incorporate the tuna consumption promotion actions that are already underway”. In this line, he advanced that they will develop initiatives that encourage the acquisition of other Tenerife fishing products, such as old fish or bream ».
The Councilor of the Primary Sector of the Tenerife Council announced that “we will insist on strengthening the link between Tenerife producers, in this case, the fishing industry, with the tourism sector, with the aim that our products are available in restaurants, hotels, brotherhoods and marketers». González Évora explained that “our intention is to value the local product, including its consumption in schools.” The objective set by his area is “to publicize our products, linked to artisanal fishing and our gastronomic traditions.”
During the meeting with representatives of the Candelaria Fishermen’s Association, the need to promote, in collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islandstraining and training actions in the field of fishing, “so that the activity maintains high levels of competitiveness”.
This meeting responds to the will of the insular Government to “hold regular work meetings, which allow the administration to work hand in hand with the agents of the primary sector.” In this sense, Valentín González announced that, “at the request of the fishermen themselves, we are going to institutionalize this type of meeting, through the organization of an annual forum with all the brotherhoods of Tenerife.” The purpose is that it “serves as a space for permanent dialogue” between the sector and the Island Corporation.
