SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, and the insular Councilor for Animal Welfare, Valentín González, made progress this Friday, during their visit to the Tierra Blanca Animal Protection Center, located in the municipality of Fasnia, which from September will be will expand the staff at these facilities.
The Tierra Blanca dog shelter is a resource of the Cabildo that supports the island’s municipalities and that do not have the means to shelter abandoned dogs in their territorial areas, as reported by the island institution in a press release.
The center currently has 11 workers, including a project manager, a manager, two veterinarians and seven operators, as well as a group of volunteers, although as of September it will have two operators who will join the tour service dog’s.
In this sense, Dávila has highlighted the “intense” work carried out in the shelter, “providing service to 20 municipalities”, and affirming that the Cabildo feels “proud of how the center has progressed in improving animal care”.
He added that with the new additions of personnel, the animal walk service can be strengthened, contributing “to improving their socialization, and therefore, facilitating their adoption.”
Finally, the Minister of Animal Welfare, Valentín González, wanted to appeal to the population about the importance of raising awareness about animal abandonment, especially on these dates, and highlighted the need to influence awareness campaigns and also initiatives that promote the adoption.
Tierra Blanca is also designed to promote measures that reduce the incidence of animal abandonment, the identification of dogs that arrive at the shelter, population control, awareness campaigns, the collection of information or the implementation of health programs and prophylactics.
