SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Chamber Hall of the Leal Theater in La Laguna will host on September 27 and 28 the reinterpretation of Eberhard Petschinka’s Romeo and Juliet by the singer and actress Ana Belén and the actor Jesús Noguero, who will revive the classic lovers of Shakespeare’s Verona to show viewers that unbridled love is not limited to adolescence.
The councilor for Culture of La Laguna and president of the Autonomous Organization for Musical Activities (OAAM), Dailos González, commented on how important it is to combine “great local talent with top-level artists.” “Having artists of the stature of Ana Belén helps us arouse interest in the Teatro Leal’s programming. In addition, we are facing a contemporary text with a modern approach that puts our elders as protagonists of a classic literary romance”, he stressed.
What the public knows as the end of the work becomes the beginning of this show. On stage, 400 years after her tragic death in a mausoleum, Romeo and Juliet awaken as a disoriented old man and a well-preserved lady. Due to age and some memory problem, the lovers no longer recognize each other. Ana Belén’s Juliet will have to assume that she is no longer 16 years old, while Jesús Noguero’s Romeo will struggle to remember who she is and where she comes from.
For 100 minutes they will try to make the audience reflect on a love without limits, that they should not worry about age since the characters have not lost the desire to spend a lifetime together.
The staging, directed by Rafael Sánchez, has the lighting work of Carlos Marquerie, who has presided over the stage with a circular structure that moves during the course of the plot. In addition, both the set design and the costumes of the award-winning Ikerne Giménez are characterized by their simplicity, giving prominence to the work of the actors.
The musical direction is in charge of the musician David San José, who will also be at the piano. He is accompanied by Irene Rouco, on cello, and José Luis Torrijo, on guitar. Tickets can be purchased from Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Laguna Theater box office or on the tickety.es portal.
