SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife received the arrival of 691,826 passengers in June, 7.4% more than in the previous year (47,892 more passengers) and 3.8% higher than the arrivals that the island had in June 2019. Arrivals to Tenerife in the month represented 39% of the total for the Canary Islands.
The vice-president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, stressed that the data for June this year “confirm the recovery of the tourist destination of Tenerife in terms of passenger arrivals”. “This also represents the confirmation of Tenerife’s leadership in the Archipelago as a whole, being the destination most chosen by travelers, with almost 40% of the arrival quota to the Islands,” he added.
Lope Afonso also highlighted that the first semester of the year concludes with “a quite favorable balance, accumulating more than four million passengers in the first semester. The figures for this summer confirm the good evolution of the destination, which will end with the same support in regarding the occupancy and tourist spending figures as data is collected in the near future”.
National traffic arriving in Tenerife, 300,413 passengers, was 6.4% above that registered in June of the previous year, with an increase in peninsular traffic of 5.6% and inter-island traffic of +7.5 % in year-on-year comparison. Compared to 2019, national arrivals in June 2023 have remained stable, with just a 0.2% drop. Among them, arrivals from the Peninsula have been 0.6% lower, while inter-island arrivals are 0.5% higher.
Passenger traffic from the Peninsula had been exceeding the arrival level of 2019 since October 2022, while international traffic was close to the 2019 records from October 2021, exceeding them as of April 2022. International traffic, with 391,413 passengers arriving, it increased 18.3% compared to June 2022 and 7.1% compared to 2019. All markets registered an increase in arrivals, with the exception of Portugal, Denmark, Iceland and a slight decrease also from Italy.
In the first semester, the island of Tenerife has maintained connectivity with 27 markets. Similarly, the Island during the first half of the year has connected with 138 airports around the world, 4 airports more than in the same period of the previous year, through the operation of a total of 51 groups of companies. The balance of traffic to Tenerife in the first half of 2023 reached 4,406,877 passengers, which translates into an increase of 18% compared to the previous year and 6.9% higher than the same period in 2019.
