SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of the Canary Islands, in view of the events caused by the zero energy situation that occurred on the island of La Gomera, has wanted to recall the rights that affect affected consumers, users and businessmen, such as the right to a discount on the electricity bill that could reach a maximum of 10% on the annual bill.
Thus, the injured parties may claim for the damages caused by the supply cut, provided that this has not been caused by works previously communicated by the company or by force majeure. In addition, those affected will be entitled to a discount on the bill that could reach a maximum of 10% on the annual bill.
If there has been damage to household appliances, electrical appliances or food, users may submit a written claim directly to the customer service department of the company responsible for the supply, in this case Endesa. In the event of not receiving a response within a month, or if the response is not satisfactory, the individual should contact the General Directorate of Consumption, of the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, which will have to rule within six months after the user’s request has been admitted for processing. Also, the individual may contact the OMIC of his municipality.
In the event that the affected party has been a company (cafeteria, restaurant or business, among others) the claim must also be addressed to the electrical operator and in the event that the claim is dismissed, the company must file the corresponding legal actions for damages suffered, including lost profits.
From the General Directorate of Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, those affected are advised to gather as many proofs of the damage suffered as, for example, invoices and delivery notes for the lost goods; invoices or documents proving ownership of the damaged appliances or appliances, as well as receipts for the extraordinary costs incurred as a result of the blackout.
Likewise, it is convenient to review the insurance policies, since in many cases, it is likely that they cover damages due to electricity and, in this case, the corresponding accident report must be given to the company.
